Yacochuya 2005, Cafayate, Calchaquies Valley, Salta

The 2005 Yacochuya (100% Malbec) spent 18 months in new French oak. It is a saturated opaque purple color with a brooding bouquet of mineral, wood smoke, lavender, incense, black cherry, and plum. Voluptuous and powerful on the palate, the wine is dense, rich, succulent, and impeccably balanced. It demands another 6-8 years of cellaring and will offer prime drinking through 2025, if not longer.

Catena Alta Malbec 2008, Estate Lots, Mendoza

The 2007 Catena Alta Malbec presents a dark opaque violet color, with almost blackish hues. The nose offers freshly ground, ripe berry fruits with layers of violet flowers, cinnamon spice, and a touch of lavander. The mouthfeel is full and coating, with exceptional weight and concentration and a velvety texture. The mid-palate offers rich cassis and black currant fruit flavors interwoven with hints of chocolate, vanilla and black pepper. The lengthy finish shows wonderful minerality, with finely grained tannins and lively acidity.

catena alta chardonnay 2009

This wine is remarkable from start to finish, beginning with an aromatic and complex nose of pear and apricot, almond and lemon cream. Subtle hints of white flowers and warm, smoky notes follow. The palate is full and concentrated, with citrus, honey, vanilla, nutmeg and toast. The wine has a wonderful viscosity, mouth coating and pleasantly creamy, but with an exciting streak of minerally acidity that leaves us wanting more.
